SSOE Design Expo

These past two semester I have leveraged my talents as a bioengineer to prepare risk and hazard reports, develop/conduct verification and validation test protocols/reports, and create the interactive interface that researchers use to select, compare, and save images. I have also gained familiarity with using medical device quality management software and studying the FDA's guidelines on image analysis technologies. These experiences culminated with our presentations at the Swanson School of Engineering Design Expo 2020/2021 and the Northeast Bioengineering Conference 2021.

Senior Design: PET Scan Filtration for Tau Images

Alzheimer's disease is the progressive neurodegeneration due to the accumulation of cytotoxic proteins such as hyperphosphorylated tau. Unfortunately, the biomarker AV1451 used to denote tau distribution not only binds to tau, but also to other compounds within the brain, such as iron within the bloodstream. This results in PET Scan images with many false positives and poor inter-reader reliability. Senior design team 6's mission is to develop MATLAB based software capable of removing these false positives for greater inter-reader reliability between researchers and a potential diagnostic tool for clinicians.
