Heart Rate and Fitness Tracker

Maladies, such as diabetes and obesity, can arise from indolence. Taking quantitative measures of one's health and fitness will ensure well-being. For example, an IEEE submitted study investigated how 18 diabetic, obese, and/or overweight subjects were impacted by using a Fitbit to monitor the number of steps they had taken. While most users were not physically active when the study began, the subjects slowly developed an awareness of their inactivity and were inspired to improve their well-being by exercising. Our team hopes that our LabVIEW implementation can achieve the same result by showing users their BMI progression, calories burned while working out, and number of steps taken. In addition, the programming includes simulated real-time heart rate in BPM and accelerometer/gyroscope readings so users will understand how some of these quantitative measures were derived. BMI progression is stored in text files for the user’s ease of access.
